  1. Greetings! Here is the thread where I will post th current standings in the competition, and update the thread monthly! The scores are averages of the three judges' score for each story based on the criteria of: overall writing/structure, usage of the prompt, worldbuilding/characters, and originality. After January's prompt, here are the standings! 1. Layla - 15 points 2. Thomas & Varsha - 14 points 3. Frog - 13 points 4. Karl - 12 points
  2. Hello Everyone! I apologize for the delay in posting the prompt, life has been slightly insane lately on my end. After reading what you all wrote for January's prompt, I'm excited to see what you can do with this month's! This prompt comes from my fellow judge @Holly Tinsley and I love it! The prompt: I don't think you're supposed to eat that Good luck, and I look forward to reading your stories!
  3. You’ll be fine, I’m sure it’s great! Can’t wait to see what all you talented writers come up with!
  4. I’m the same time zone as Steve I think. And Sundays work for me!!
  5. Hey everyone, I decided to start the writer’s battle with a visual prompt! I decided to use the painting “Jotun” by Adam Burke. You’re free to interpret it however you like and use it to craft your stories! I wish you all the best of luck, and feel free to post your responses below or attach it to your comment in a DOC file. Best of luck this month!!
  6. Should we aim for the battle to commence on January 1st 2023? I can start coming up with prompts if that works for everyone!!
  7. I’m more than happy to come up with prompts! Or to make it fair we can split prompt duty amongst the judges if they’re willing to take that on
  8. You are one of the few authors who are actually able to make me laugh while I read their books (Nicholas Eames and Abercrombie are others that come to mind). Is humour something you make an effort to put in your books or do the jokes just come naturally to you and it’s something you don’t even think about?
  9. Sort of. The sequel is basically completely done however, it is BAD. So it needs polishing, the problem though is that my alpha reader pointed out a massive plot hole in the story, and now I can’t figure out how to address it without unravelling everything.
  10. Hi Mark, Sorry for the late replies! No actually I didn't! Season of Kings just came to me while I hit a wall on Oathbreaker's sequel ( a wall I'm still trying to break down).
  11. I think 5 is a good number of writers, and if you don’t have time to judge, I’m sure I can handle 5 short stories a month!
  12. Hey everyone! If you need a book over the holidays, and love grimdark fantasy, then might I suggest you pick up a copy of Season of Kings, the eBook is currently free on Amazon for this week only! The story is full of betrayal, political intrigue, and of course, violence https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B1RJ735C/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0_nodl?ie=UTF8&qid=1670357632&sr=8-1&dplnkId=d280bb31-a9c0-4d13-9824-31c83766fadb
  13. If we can submit files here this would be a great way to keep things organized!!!!
  14. So to answer a few questions I see (at least as to how it works in the facebook group I am in), The stories are generally pretty short maybe hovering around that 1000 - 3000 words. I'm not sure if we can have writers be judges as well as it would be hard to maintain unbiased judging that way.
  15. I think there are 3 judges and 10 contestants in the group. I’m not a judge so I can’t speak as to how that is organized, (probably just take the average from each judge’s scorecard for the overall score for each story). And I’d like to commit to being a judge! Idk if I could commit to writing a short story on top of all my other works but reading should be fine!
