It is a clear console port, but they have ported it well. Not like cyberpunk. That was an awful port. Especially for lefties.

So finished both the main and Frozen Wilds add-on. Overall, i'd say 83%. Excellent game.

Can't wait for Forbidden West. which will of course take 3 years after the PS5 release.

Or the movie.

Video game movie adaptations almost never work out.  Cant think of any that were even good

Have you looked at No Man's Sky lately?  It has MP, but you can turn all that off and have your own private universe to explore and play in; it's only there for people who want to play with others.  There's also a lengthy thread discussing the game here on our very own forums!

I'm not advocating NMS, specifically, but your criteria are broad and vague.  I haven't played it myself in quite a while, and the developers added a lot of new content since I stopped.  I'm sure it fits the bill of "take your time, and no (mandatory) multiplayer stuff."  There's certainly plenty to explore and do.

I have an old potato of a computer, so my recommendations are unlikely to take advantage of your new PCs strengths.  I also suffer from "cable syndrome" ... you know, 200+ channels on TV and nothing good to watch.  In my case, GoG tells me I have over 480 titles in my library, but I end up playing and regularly rotating through a very small subset of those (~5-10%) depending on mood.  I'm sure I have something in there I could recommend to play (or avoid) given more explicit criteria.

@Dunnar ... Here is another game suggestion that matches your criteria.  You can take as long as you like and play this as much (or as little); take your time, and explore various possibilities.  It is strictly a single player game, but an online connection may be required (at least initially).  The best part is that it is free.  With your new PC, you should be able to turn the graphics all the way up without any problems whatsoever.

You may not need a mathematics degree to understand how to play it - even children can - but it could provide a better understanding of the nuance built into the mechanics.

NMS was defo a timesink for me. And i mean that in a positive way. If it grabs you, you could spend months on it. I found it average at best, and once i'd played out the central story, i quit. Then again, i don't think i'm built for sandbox-type games, which i believe it's originally intention was.

Cyberpunk was good. It went from feeling like there was months of content, to finished very quickly. Although it was still 80 hours+. CP has raytracing too, so if you want to build a new rig, consider one of the RTX cards.

My favourite game of the past 6 months has to be Horizon Zero Dawn. Really great storyline and good characters too. 

In terms of building a new computer, i would defo recommend going with AMD for the CPU for price/performance. SSD's all the way. Maybe NVME for speed on the OS disk. I went 16Gb DDR4, but wish i'd gone 32 now, as it was cheap at the time and would have future proofed better.

Did the Epic game launcher exist since you last played PC games?

The reason I ask is they give away a free game (or 2) every week, so if you're unsure what to play you can build up a library of games pretty quickly just by claiming those every week. I have 70+ games in my library and I haven't payed for any of them, and they do offer AAA games from time to time. Taking a quick look at my library, I have Watchdogs 2, Total War Saga: Troy, Torchlight 2, Hitman, Metro 2033 and Last Light (redux), Rage 2, and Star Wars Battlefront 2. Not to mention many popular-but-not-quite-AAA games like City: Skylines, Darkest Dungeon, Tropico 5, Enter the Gungeon, etc.

I picked up Endzone - A World Apart from GoG on Friday, and have been playing it most of the day today.  (gratuitous link for Steam users)  Reviews describe the game as a post-apocalyptic version of Banished, and that is close but not wholly accurate.  Yes, there are a lot of common elements between the two games; for all I know, they may even use the same graphics engine.  They're both city-builder survival management sims where your success depends on the planning and execution of your choices.  But there are differences, too. 

In Endzone, the player must plan around the seasons and weather, including rains and drought, and fluctuating radiation levels.  Rains can bring radioactive contamination, and inevitable health consequences, that must be mitigated.  Drought can lead to starvation, and the inevitable health consequences therefrom, so you really should consider preparing a sufficiently large stockpile of food and water to keep on hand.  The people's social needs must be met, like housing where they can reproduce in privacy (*wink wink, nudge nudge*), schools to educate the resulting children, roads so the workers can more easily get around, and cemeteries where they can mourn the dead.  They require tools, protective clothing, and medicines.  And their labor needs to be divided and specialized for the village to grow - despite the hazards around them.  And if you succeed despite all that, your people may have to defend their hard scrabble keepsakes against raiders who want to take away some of what you got.

The game has a low price tag - appropriate for what you get - thus easier to provide a good entertainment value.  Words like "deep" and "thorough" seem cliché when describing the game's tutorials, so perhaps it's best to say they are extensive and detailed, and they should prepare you well for playing in the sandbox (or dabbling in the predefined challenge scenarios).  Even though there is an in-game help manual, I highly recommend playing the tutorials for the "why you might want to do this" explanations provided by the tutorial narrator as opposed to "you can do this if you satisfy these requirements" factoids coldly listed in the manual.

The player can pause or set the speed of time passage to mitigate having to wait for your villagers to complete the tasks you set for them.  Just my opinion but, the normal speed seems a bit slow, and the next notch up seems much too fast; I'd prefer a speed option in-between those two.  There is yet a third "Ludicrous" speed that I've avoided thus far.  I play these types of games for relaxation, but I recognize others may prioritize getting things done more quickly, and so it's good to have options.

It's going quite well.  Massive learning curve, but I hope to retire within the next 5 years.  I lost a LOT of money at first and was highly discouraged (and depressed), but kept learning and fighting (mental discipline) and now I am up quite more than double when I started and 5k% from my low point.  I have put a lot of time and effort treating it like a second job for over a year now.  I won't ever quit to day trade, there is no reason to give up my security for it, but the income from low risk theta plays is plenty if you get your account big enough.

Unlike the person who got me started, I feel confident enough with a few strategies helping you or anyone else to get started with minimal risk as you learn.  I am very cautious with advice, because I am not a financial consultant and I don't want to be accountable for peoples mistakes.

But it IS the great game, and a gaming history IMO preps you quite well for the stock market.

Excellent. Congrats. My wifes Uncle has also done well over the past 30 years.

For me, i have no safety net; no one at all to bail me out if i fail. No matter how hard that fall was, it would be down to me alone to rise again. It would mean failure to my wife and child too. I don't have the courage to risk it for that reason. But i remain VERY curious how others do.
