Do you care if fantasy books have a map?

I see lots of maps in books, but I don't think I've ever really paid attention to them.  Authors pay pretty good chunks of money sometimes for detailed maps for their books and I wondered if I'm in the minority.

Do you care if a fantasy book doesn't have a map?

I never look at the map Especially not while reading because going back to the start with an ereader is not easy

I don't think I care, but it is a bonus if there is one. I used the maps in the Malazan books a lot. @Jolien Reads you can bookmark the map page and it's a lot easier to go back and forth.

I love a map! I will look at it while reading also if I need a bit of clarification on a location.

I love maps in books!  It does annoy me if there is a lot of traveling in a fantasy novel and there is no map to follow along. *cough* Black Company *cough*

Maps Maps and more maps.  Maps of the world, nation, country city, battlefield, rout to the outhouse, or whatever.  Love em.

That's a good point, never even thought of that.

There are people who specialize in creating maps (that look really great, btw) and that's all they do for a living.  I wonder what they charge to create really intricate maps
