Steve 7,527 Posted November 11, 2022 I realized we didn't have a writers section, so created this new category. I can create specific sub-forums for topics or other interests, just let me know what would work. @Christopher G. Brenning mentioned having a writers battle forum during one of our discussions, that sounds like fun. 2 Paromita Mukherjee and Frank reacted to this Quote Steve IRL ► Personal Links: YouTube (booktube) ● OTBSteve YouTube (MTB and cycling) ● Strava ● Last.fm ● GoodReads ● Vero ◄

In one of the facebook groups I am in, they have a yearly battle of Grimdark authors based on prompts from other members in the group and then are judged by the moderators. 4 chrisM, Thomas, Frank and 1 other reacted to this

A_FROG_IN_TIME 898 Posted December 12, 2022 To better get into the mind of my permanently hooded assassin Asharam, I am currently writing with a hoody up while listening to the Hellraiser soundtrack... Is that weird? 1 3 Paromita Mukherjee, Frank, Steve and 1 other reacted to this

A_FROG_IN_TIME 898 Posted February 8 I have been struggling to find the right sounding voice for one of my main characters. Asharam He is a deformed assassin, an Alien Human hybrid. He has patches of scars on his face and neck, milky green eyes, parts of the skin on his torso is so translucent you can almost see his internal organs. This is the reason he always keeps his face shrouded within the folds of a dark cloak. His personality is quite light, he has a quick wit and is prone to making wry comments. He is about the best there is when it comes to his job. He is always in control and has never failed a mission. He does not enjoy killing and would rather he did not have to, he does however, see it as a necessary evil. I think his voice should be soft and warm, betraying the kindness he really feels beneath the scars, deformities and killings. Currently I am imagining him with @Steve's voice. Open to suggestions based on this description! 1 Paromita Mukherjee reacted to this
JannyWurts 434 Posted February 8 This is a great idea! *What is a 'writer's battle'? I know what a writer's sprint is - we band together, set a time (like an hour or two) and see how far we can get in a draft. I've found these very helpful to light up the push to finish short fiction and meet a deadline. Often they are spontaneous - 'hey, I'm sitting down at 3, anyone want to do a sprint?' Right now I am typing in the last edited changes (already marked up by hand) on the manuscript I am turning in to the editor in March...so pretty blocked up with long days and late nights/the only sprint I'll be doing is monkey work on the keyboard and no creativity - that part's behind. Why I've been 'scarce' around here for a bit, but this will shift when the book goes in. Definitely like the idea of a writers' spot. 2 Paromita Mukherjee and Varsha reacted to this Quote https://www.paravia.com/JannyWurts
A_FROG_IN_TIME 898 Posted February 9 A quote from The Destroyer I am really proud of, for no real reason. "It was Yasser’s turn to readjust his position. When there is nothing but dark choices to be made, no chair is comfortable." 2 Frank and Paromita Mukherjee reacted to this
